When I started on Threads, I had zero followers and no real plan. For about five months it crawled. Fifty views on a good day, and 290 followers to show for the whole stretch.

Did I think about packing it in? More than once.

A few of my friends had even started asking why I was still bothering with "that Threads thing."

Then one post changed the whole picture.

I'd written it for one specific person: someone stuck in a 9-to-5 they'd long outgrown, watching the clock.

For once I wasn't trying to talk to "everyone."

The result? It did more than 28,000 views and got me more than 200 new followers. Before that post went live, I still had only 290 followers.

That's when it finally clicked, and it's the one thing I'd be focusing on if I were you.

The algorithm rewards a clear, consistent signal far more than it rewards clever writing. Write for one person and stay on one topic. In other words...

Let me give you another example.

A few months later, a reply I gave under another person's post brought more than 2,000 followers in a single day.

That's when I realized that your own posts build your signal over time, but replies let you borrow reach from an audience that's already paying attention to someone else.

None of this needs a big following to get going. It needs you to pick your one person and keep turning up long enough for things to start compounding.

That's the idea behind how I grew the account. The harder part is putting it into practice, and that's what I've spent a long time writing down in one place. More on that tomorrow.
